A Cyber Career. People of colour remain largely under-represented in the Cyber profession, a reality this short documentary interview by Evenlode Films aims to challenge. Commissioned by Lives of Colour, we have produced this film to encourage and introduce people of colour to the engaging world of the Cyber industry. About the film: A poignant mini-documentary/interview highlighting the careers of Kenario and Taylor, two people from Gloucestershire, navigating the landscape of the Cyber industry. Each with their unique journey, they recount the decisions that guided them to this industry and their experiences therein. Kenario's story takes us back to her school days when a switch to computer science led to an 'aha' moment. Fascinated by the workings of the computer engine, Kenario's journey evolved from playing games to analysing how they run, leading her to an enriching apprenticeship. On a different tract, Taylor found his calling in the blend of both people and computers. Leaving school at 16, Taylor took up an apprenticeship at a local SME, gaining essential hands-on experience that debunked the myth of being a 'coding genius'. The revelation that the people side was as, if not more, important than the computer side became a significant learning moment. The film also exemplifies the inclusivity within the industry. Both Kenario and Taylor find comfort in the diversity and cultural networks established within their workplaces, creating an atmosphere that encourages belonging and acceptance.
